13. 13TH January. The turntablist

It occurs to me that at some point, I'm going to actually need a new turntable. The really nice Technics I got for a bargain on eBay has had a loose wire since day one. And we're a long way from day one now. The left channel drops out, distorts, vanishes. At least I think it's the left channel. It's the channel on my left as I face the speakers. Which probably makes it the right channel.

I got the deck for about £50. Which was a bargain. Didn't know I'd need a pre-amp. Which cost me about £120. Or a decent cable, which cost me about £40. And a new head shell. And a new stylus. Don't try to save money, it doesn't work.

The whole thing died again this afternoon, just as I sat down to write. Took the pre amp apart, put it back together again. Pain in the arse.

One good idea though - took the MacBook into town with me. The half hour gap between finishing the 'Team talk show' (always nice to see Mr Sutton on a show) and starting the 'main show' gave me chance to tighten up the very start of act one of DD, after freshening it up at 4am. It works now. I've got more detail I'd like to put in, and it'll breathe more once i get to script but the nature of doing this is that I'm living the characters more. Act One feels done. Tomorrow, act two. I've been saying that for a week.  But Friday is deadline so it needs to be sorted. Soon as that's done? Back onto the festival remix of MIH, sorting out a one page pitch for the BM project, hopefully getting Lee into a meeting for Vicks.

Then? Mabel, Comeback Special, maybe the Skiffle musical. Maybe the three hander set in NYC 1980. Who knows where any of this goes.

Waterboys, Room To Roam on vinyl. Wonderful - apart from the moments where the typing disrupts that loose wire and crackle and burn takes over.

First world problems? The record deck on my desk as I write my plays can be a bit irritating. Stop moaning Salmon.

(Oh, by the way, that mirror that smashed the other night? The one I cleaned up? Found a bit more of it. It's in my left big toe. Sound.)
